Dear Plaza Families and Friends,

As part of our weekly surveillance testing, we have identified a new team member that has tested positive for COVID-19. As per the states guidance on visitation, we are required to postpone all indoor visitation 14 days from a new positive case. The center will have an accessible and safe outdoor space designated for visitation by appointment only. Please consider weather conditions at the time of your visit.

We remain in close contact with our state and local officials to ensure that all appropriate measures are followed to prevent the spread of this virus. As always, our top priority is the safety of our residents and team members. We thank you for your continued understanding and support during these difficult times.

Please feel free to reach out to me at any time if you may have any questions or concerns regarding this matter. I can be reached at 352-553-8340.

Warmest Regards,

Charolyn Hicks, NHA

On October 22, 2020, at the direction of Governor Ron DeSantis, Florida Division of Emergency Management Director Jared Moskowitz issued Emergency Order 20-011 revising some of the requirements for individuals entering residential and long-term care facilities.

 The revisions include the following:

  • Collapse Essential Caregiver into the Compassionate Caregiver definition.
  • Require signage in the facility for infection control reminders. (Updated Visitor Screening Tool).
  • Clarify hospice may serve their residents.
  • Allow resident visits from their legal counsel when virtual means are not available.
  • Eliminate maximum limit on the number of visitors a resident may have listed – the facility must have policies addressing the number of visitors allowed with a resident or in the facility at one time.
  • Allow children to visit with appropriate monitoring.
  • Allow outdoor visitation regardless of facility COVID cases.

Re:  Request re: Visitation Program

We need your understanding and support to preserve our visitation program and ensure that we are in full compliance with the rules issued by the Governor’s office.

In particular:

Arrivals and Departures

General visitors (non caregivers) are being asked to plan on arriving at the specific appointment time to which they agreed.  Our schedule remains fairly rigorous. Essential Caregivers are welcome to come in at any time. Other families will be here for their appointed times. At the same time, we need to avoid crowding and a loss of social distancing. If an essential Caregiver needs to confer with employees in other parts of the building, the Caregiver should contact the receptionist to schedule that appointment.

Limited Access to Other Parts of the Building

Much forethought has been given to restricting visitor movement around the building to minimize the possibility of exposure to infection on the part of visitors and other residents

Structured Visiting Protocols

Furniture Placement is performed to keep social distancing and Plaza personnel are stationed to monitor visitor compliance with the rules around safety practices. These practices may diminish the natural spontaneity of your visit but it is our duty to monitor any activity that might put our residents at risk.

Essential & Compassionate Care Designations

We ask that you accept instruction to safely provide such care. Our staff will provide training for you. Your cooperation and support is very much appreciated and we hope these conditions don’t in any way detract from your enjoyment of this time with your loved ones. We are profoundly grateful to be able to report that we have no coronavirus cases in the building. Your partnership with us and your help have much to do with our current experience. Thank you.

“Today’s announcement by the governor is a significant step forward in achieving our shared goal of reuniting our residents with their loved ones. We know you are looking forward to being reconnected with your loved one in person and like you, we look forward to returning some sense of normalcy to our center so our residents can once again experience it as the place they know as their home. We are in the process of putting the policies in place to reopen safely to visitors based on the state’s guidance and will communicate those procedures very soon.

In the meantime, please know that our focus will remain on keeping our residents and staff safe from the virus, which has been our number one priority since this pandemic began. If you have questions, please contact facility.
